Google Business Profile
Your business's info card on Google Maps and search — hours, photos, services, all visible before someone even reaches your actual website.
Why this matters
The customer’s side
This is often the very first thing a potential customer sees about your business — missing photos, no listed hours, or an incomplete description can make an otherwise great agency look unprofessional or not actively trading.
The search engine’s side
One of the biggest single local ranking factors that exists
Google states local ranking is based mainly on relevance, distance, and prominence — profile completeness feeds directly into relevance, making this one of the biggest single factors that exists.
How to check yours
Method 1 — Check your own dashboard directly
the most direct read — every field either exists or it doesn't.
- 1.Log into business.google.com.
- 2.Go through every section and note anything blank or incomplete.
Method 2 — Compare against a strong competitor
shows you what “complete” actually looks like in practice, not just what's technically filled in.
- 1.Search your business type in your town on Google Maps.
- 2.Open the top-ranking competitor's profile.
- 3.Note anything they have that yours doesn't — photo count, services listed, Q&A activity.
How to fix what you find
Blank or incomplete fields
fill in every section fully — category, hours, services, attributes, and a genuine description using your real business details.
Fewer than 10 photos
add at least 10 real photos — the office, the team, local area shots, recent sold or let properties. Real photos outperform stock images here specifically.
Unanswered questions in the Q&A section
answer these directly — anyone can ask a question here, and an unanswered one sits there indefinitely, visible to everyone who visits your profile.
Keeping on top of it
Hours change, services get added, questions come in — this needs revisiting regularly, not filled in once and left. Worth a full review monthly.
