Analytics, Enquiry Tracking, and Algorithm Awareness

The instruments for seeing whether everything above is actually working — tracking who visits, where enquiries genuinely come from, and whether Google's changed anything recently.

Why this matters

The customer’s side

Invisible to them entirely — this is purely about you understanding your own results, not something a customer ever notices.

The search engine’s side

No ranking effect — but without it, nothing else here is measurable

Also has no direct effect on ranking — but without it, you have no way of knowing which of everything else in this guide is genuinely working, and a single month of data tells you almost nothing on its own.

How to check yours

Method 1 — Ask yourself honestly

the quick version — most people already know the answer if they're honest.

  1. 1.Could you currently say which page generated your last 5 enquiries?

Method 2 — Try to actually answer it

the honest self-check above is easy to answer optimistically — actually attempting it settles it for real.

  1. 1.Open whatever analytics you currently have, if any.
  2. 2.Try to trace your last 5 genuine enquiries back to a specific page or source.
  3. 3.Note exactly where you get stuck — that's exactly what's missing.

How to fix what you find

No visitor tracking

set up Google Analytics, free, at analytics.google.com.

No way to trace enquiries to a source

add “how did you hear about us?” to every enquiry form and phone call, logging answers even in a simple spreadsheet.

Not tracking algorithm changes

follow Search Engine Journal or Search Engine Land for update news, or ask an AI tool with web search enabled.

Keeping on top of it

Monthly, not daily

Check monthly, not daily — consistency matters more than frequency here, and it's usually the first thing dropped when things get busy, which is exactly the wrong instinct.
