Finding a Competitor's Weak Spots and Content Gaps
Actively identifying where a specific, named rival is weak, rather than just “doing SEO well” in isolation and hoping it's enough.
Why this matters
The customer’s side
They're not choosing “a good agent” in the abstract — they're choosing between you and the specific rival they've also found, so being better than that one named business is what actually wins the decision.
The search engine’s side
Not a ranking factor itself — a targeting tool for everything else in this guide
Not a direct ranking factor itself — this tells you exactly where to focus the direct and indirect factors already covered in this guide, for maximum effect against the rival actually costing you business.
How to check yours
Method 1 — Walk through this same checklist on their site
the thorough version — apply everything covered in this course to them, not just yourself.
- 1.Pick a specific, named competitor you genuinely lose enquiries to.
- 2.Browse their site using this same course as a checklist.
- 3.Note anywhere they're clearly stronger, and anywhere they're clearly weaker.
Method 2 — Ask an AI tool to compare directly
faster, and a reasonable first pass before the fuller manual walkthrough.
- 1.Paste their homepage and a key page's text into ChatGPT or Claude, along with your own.
- 2.Ask what they're covering that you aren't, and where you're already ahead.
How to fix what you find
Once you've got a list of gaps
prioritise the one that's easiest for you to fix and hardest for them to quickly copy — genuine local data or a real relationship-based advantage beats anything they could replicate in an afternoon.
Keeping on top of it
Competitors don't stay still either — this goes stale the moment it's filed away and forgotten. Worth revisiting quarterly.
