Tracking Your Response Rate Specifically

Knowing what percentage of your reviews actually get a reply — a separate number from your star rating, and one that's easy to lose track of without deliberately checking.

Why this matters

The customer’s side

54%of reviews get any response at all

Only 54% of reviews get any response at all across businesses generally — most owners genuinely believe they're more on top of it than they are, because a high star rating feels like the job's done. It isn't the same number.

The search engine’s side

Confirmed — a separate ranking input from your star rating

Response activity is a confirmed local ranking factor independent of your rating — which means a business with a slightly lower rating but a consistently high response rate can genuinely out-rank one with better stars and silence.

How to check yours

  1. 1

Count your last 20 reviews and count how many have a reply from you.

  2. 2

Turn that into a rough percentage — that's your actual response rate, not your assumed one.

How to fix what you find

If your response rate is meaningfully below 100%

clear the backlog first, then treat 'reply to every review' as a non-negotiable step in your routine, not a nice-to-have.

The easiest route

Recheck the same count monthly rather than guessing — it takes a few minutes and tells you immediately whether the habit is actually holding.

Keeping on top of it

Monthly, a few minutes

Monthly — a quick count, not a deep audit, but consistent enough to catch drift before it becomes a real backlog.
