Turning On Instant Notifications
Making sure a new review reaches you — by app notification, email, or text — the moment it's posted, rather than being discovered whenever you next happen to check.
Why this matters
The customer’s side
The person who left the review doesn't know you haven't seen it yet — from their side, a slow reply just looks like you don't care. Instant notification is what makes a genuinely fast response possible at all; you can't reply quickly to something you haven't noticed.
The search engine’s side
Prerequisite — enables fast response, doesn't rank itself
Not a ranking factor on its own — this is the prerequisite that makes the actual ranking factor (response speed and activity) achievable in practice.
How to check yours
- 1
Check your Google Business Profile app and account settings to confirm review notifications are actually switched on.
- 2
Do the same for any other platform you actively manage — Trustpilot and Facebook both have their own notification settings.
How to fix what you find
If notifications are off, or going somewhere no one checks
turn them on and point them at whoever actually owns review replies day to day — not a shared inbox that gets checked once a week.
If you want a single wider net as well
set up a free Google Alert for your business name, which can catch mentions beyond the platforms you're actively monitoring.
Keeping on top of it
Set once — this is a settings change, not a recurring task, though worth confirming still works after any app or account changes.
