Responding To Reviews · 2.5
Replying To Every Review, Not Just The Negative Ones
A genuine, specific reply to every review that comes in — five-star ones included — not just damage control on the bad ones.
Why this matters
The customer’s side
89% of consumers say they're more likely to choose a business that responds to every review. A reply to a five-star review isn't wasted effort — it's visible proof, to everyone reading later, that you're actually paying attention.
The search engine’s side
Confirmed local ranking factor
Review response activity is itself a confirmed local search ranking factor, independent of your star rating or review count — and only 54% of reviews get any response at all, which means simply replying to everything is a genuine, measurable edge over most competitors doing the bare minimum.
How to check yours
- 1
Open your Google Business Profile and count how many of your last 20 reviews have a reply from you.
- 2
Note specifically how many five-star reviews were left unanswered — that's usually where the gap is biggest, since negative reviews tend to get attention by default.
How to fix what you find
If you have a backlog of unanswered reviews
clear it in one sitting rather than letting it grow — work oldest to newest, and keep replies short and specific rather than generic.
If five-star reviews specifically are going unanswered
build replying to positive reviews into the same routine as negative ones, rather than treating it as optional.
Keeping on top of it
Ideally daily, or at minimum a few times a week — a backlog that builds up for a month is a much bigger job than staying on top of it.
