GEO courseModule 6 of 10: Content an AI Can UseLesson 6.7
Video, Photos and Floorplans in Words AI Can Read
Property is visual, but AI mostly works from words. Making sure the facts in your photos, floorplans, EPC graphs and videos also appear as text: room sizes, EPC rating, alt text that describes the image, and transcripts and descriptions for video.
Why it matters
Room sizes in a floorplan image and an EPC rating in a graph are invisible to an AI reading the page code.
The evidence
Evidence: Official guidance
Official guidance to keep key facts in text. Whether assistants use image content in answers isn't established.
Do this first
On three listings, check whether room sizes, EPC rating and tenure appear as text, not only in images.
01What it is
Describing a film to a friend by playing a clip down the phone. If they can’t see it, they miss it. If you also tell them what happens, everyone gets it.
Think of it like
Subtitles on a film. The pictures tell the story to some people, the words to others, and both get the same plot.
02Why it matters
To the people searching
Buyers and tenants rely on floorplans, EPCs and photos, and many use screen readers or slow connections. Sellers and landlords judge your marketing by your tours and photos.
buyers
Use floorplans, photos and tours to decide whether to view.
tenants
Want room sizes and EPC rating without opening a PDF.
sellers
Judge your quality from your tours and photos.
landlords
Expect honest images that won't cause complaints later.
To Google, Bing and AI
Evidence: Official guidanceMicrosoft advises against leaving core information only in PDFs or images, and Google asks for important content as text, supported by good images and video (which its AI features can show). An AI reading raw page code sees text, not pictures. A transcript turns a video into something it can read. YouTube is widely cited by AI tools, but there's no evidence a local agent's video gets them mentioned more.
An agent example
Before: a video titled "Tour 12.mp4" under "Gallery", and photos with alt text "house". After: "Walk-through of a three bedroom terrace on Mill Lane, Oakfield", a two-line description, a transcript under the video, room sizes and the EPC rating written beside the floorplan, and alt text like "Open-plan kitchen with white units and a breakfast bar, looking onto the garden".
03Your turn
Check yours, then fix it
- 1On a listing or area page, select all the text (Ctrl+A) and paste it into a notepad.
- 2Which facts are missing that are only in images or video?
- 1Run a page through WAVE to see missing alt text.
- 2Read the alt text on ten images. Does it describe what each shows?
- 1Does each video have a clear title, a plain description and a transcript or captions on the page?
- 2Ask an AI to summarise one of your video pages. What does it pick up?
- 1Room sizes and layout beside the floorplan image.
- 2EPC rating in the page text. Keep the certificate as a download.
- 3Retype offers and fees from graphics as text.
- 1Alt text that says what the image shows: "open-plan kitchen with island and garden doors", not a list of keywords.
- 2Sensible file names: kitchen-extension-terraced-house-oakfield.jpg, not IMG_2043.jpg.
- 3Decorative images can have empty alt text.
- 1Use YouTube's automatic captions as a draft, then correct them.
- 2Paste the transcript under the embedded video on your page.
- 3Name the street, area and property type in the title and description.
Write concise, useful alt text and a one-sentence caption for each of these property photos, based only on my descriptions. No keyword stuffing, and don't add features I haven't mentioned. [descriptions]
Then: Check who owns the copyright before reusing photos, floorplans and EPCs elsewhere: photographers and portals may hold the rights. Edited or AI-altered photos are covered in lesson 6.8.
04Keep it up
Build it into every new listing and video. Spot-check five listings a quarter.
That's lesson 6.7
