Comparing Google Business Profile Posting Activity

Checking how often a competitor is actually posting updates, new listings, and photos to their Google Business Profile — a visible signal of an active business that most agents never think to check on someone else's profile.

Why this matters

The customer’s side

A profile with recent posts and photos reads as an active, current business. A profile that hasn't posted in months, sitting next to a competitor's that updates weekly, reads as the quieter option — even if the actual service is identical.

The search engine’s side

Direct — profile activity is a measured local ranking input

Profile activity is a signal Google's local algorithm weighs alongside reviews and completeness — a competitor posting consistently is doing something concrete you can measure and match.

How to check yours

  1. 1

Open your named competitor's Google Business Profile and check the "Updates" or posts section for how recently, and how often, they've posted.

  2. 2

Compare that frequency to your own — most agents have genuinely never looked at a competitor's profile this way.

How to fix what you find

If a competitor posts noticeably more often than you

match or beat their cadence with your own regular updates — new listings, sold/let announcements, and local content all count.

Keeping on top of it

Monthly

Monthly is enough to spot a real gap without over-checking something that only moves gradually.
